Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Reston, Virginia, GridPoint installs controllers and submetering on HVAC, lighting and refrigeration in chain retail, restaurants, banks and government buildings, then layers analytics, anomaly detection and automated scheduling on the data. The platform is deployed in more than 20,000 commercial buildings and the company reports over 10 billion kWh and $1.5B of customer energy cost avoided, with a stated goal of a gigawatt-scale distributed VPP by 2035. Funding includes a $45M strategic round in March 2025 anchored by Mitsubishi-sponsored Marunouchi Innovation Partners, an earlier $75M round led by Goldman Sachs' Sustainable Investing Group with Shell Ventures, and an investment facility of up to $150M from HASI.
