Nuclear plant developer that prefabricates light-water reactor plants in shipyards and barges them to waterfront sites, aiming to make nuclear project-financeable rather than designing a new reactor.
Founded in 2023 by Jake Jurewicz and Matt Slotkin out of MIT's Nuclear Science & Engineering department, Blue Energy borrows the modular fabrication playbook of LNG terminals: build in a controlled yard that already handles heavy steel, then deliver by water. It raised $380M in equity and debt in April 2026 led by VXI Capital with Engine Ventures, At One Ventures and Tamarack Global, later taking strategic investment from Constellation Technology Ventures and engaging Societe Generale on project financing. Its first project is a multi-gigawatt gas-to-nuclear facility at the Port of Victoria, Texas with GE Vernova gas turbines bridging to BWRX-300 SMRs; Blue Energy filed Part 1 of its NRC construction permit application in September 2026 ahead of a 2027 FID.
