Danish developer of container-sized thorium molten salt reactors designed to breed fissile U-233 while burning transuranics out of spent light-water reactor fuel.

Copenhagen Atomics' 'Onion Core' design wraps the fuel salt in a ~2,000-litre lithium-fluoride/thorium-fluoride breeding blanket at around 600-700C, using transuranics from used fuel as kickstarter fuel and cutting the storage horizon of the residual waste from ~100,000 years to a few hundred. Founded in 2014 by engineers from the Technical University of Denmark and based at Kastrup near Copenhagen Airport, the company also sells commercial molten salt loops, pumps, instrumentation and purified salts to research customers. It has completed two full-scale prototype reactors, closed a EUR 15M Series A in late 2024 followed by an EUR 8M bridge in Q1 2026, and is working with Switzerland's Paul Scherrer Institute on a zero-power critical experiment.
