Uses a large database of operating solar performance data to underwrite property and production insurance for renewable energy projects.
kWh Analytics built its book on the Solar Revenue Put, a production guarantee structured as an insurance policy that lenders treat as credit enhancement, and has since added a Wind Proxy Hedge and a property insurance line covering solar, wind and battery storage — the latter aimed squarely at hail and severe convective storm losses. Underwriting is informed by HelioStats and SolarScape, drawn from a database of 300,000+ renewable assets covering roughly 30% of US solar installations, and the company says it protects over $50B in assets. Founded in 2012, it was acquired by Lloyd's specialty insurer Beazley in 2024 and works with capacity partners including Swiss Re, Everest, Aspen and Antares.
