Founded in Charlottesville in 2016 by Alex Bazhinov, Lumin sells a smart electrical panel that bolts onto an existing load center rather than replacing it, plus the Lumin Energy app, Off Grid Manager for battery backup and Panel Guard for load management. Circuit-level control lets homeowners stretch backup runtime, shift loads to cheap time-of-use hours and avoid costly electrical service upgrades when adding EV chargers or heat pumps, and the system integrates with Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, EG4 and FranklinWH batteries. Lumin raised roughly $26 million from investors including ABB Ventures and the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation, and ABB acquired the company in January 2025.
