Building Europe's first integrated lithium producer, extracting lithium from geothermal brine in Germany's Upper Rhine Valley while selling the co-produced renewable heat and power.

Vulcan (ASX: VUL), operating in Germany as Vulcan Energie Ressourcen GmbH out of Karlsruhe, is constructing its Lionheart project across the Upper Rhine Valley Brine Field. Phase One targets roughly 24,000 t/y of lithium hydroxide monohydrate — enough for about 500,000 EV batteries a year — plus around 275 GWh/y of renewable power and 560 GWh/y of heat, over an estimated 30-year life. Upstream geothermal-lithium extraction is centred at Landau; the central lithium plant is inside the Infraserv Höchst industrial park in Frankfurt, where construction began in April 2026. The company secured a production licence for the brine field in March 2026 and reached financial close on Phase One at roughly €2.2bn, including €250M of EIB financing.
