Danish catalyst and process-technology licensor whose solid oxide electrolysers and ammonia/methanol technology underpin much of the low-carbon fuels industry.
Topsoe supplies catalysts and licensed process technology for ammonia, methanol, hydrogen and renewable fuels, and is one of the few companies commercialising solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC), which splits steam at high temperature for a step change in efficiency over conventional electrolysers. It inaugurated Europe's largest SOEC stack factory in Herning, Denmark, sized at 500 MW per year with room to reach 1.5 GW. Following a strategic roadmap review announced in March 2026, Topsoe will prove commercial-scale manufacturing at Herning and then hibernate the plant until clean hydrogen demand recovers, and will not proceed with a previously announced second SOEC factory in the United States. The company is majority owned by the Topsøe family, with Temasek as a minority shareholder.
